How to read the graphs: The graph in each project represents the estimated amount of work which needs to be done across each milestone during the year, according to the timings of desired features and programs. The X-axis is simply time as it progresses through each milestone, but the Y-axis is slightly more complex. The amount of effort to deliver each feature has been estimated as a number between 1 and 5, and illustrated as a coloured block within a milestone. For instance, "Droppable Regions" was assigned a "3" because it requires a considerable amount of code and design effort to be considered ready to ship. These coloured blocks stack up in a milestone to forecast how much effort, in general, it will take to complete it. Butter's first milestone, for example, has a cumulative effort of about 17.5.
There was little effort to match "effort" with time precisely, because more data is required to achieve meaningful accuracy. This document is meant to be a living document throughout the year, so milestones and effort rankings will become more precise as estimates are refined, backed with release data.
A summary is available to comment on the data and progress of overall project as the year progresses.
Summary
February, 2012: Much of the weight of the project is taken on at the beginning of the year, which is not a surprise. Hopefully, features will be completed earlier, and taper off as the year progresses, leaving room for bugs to accumulate.
This document outlines the milestones and constituent features of each project comprising Popcorn Maker in the next year, namely Butter, Cornfield, Popcorn Maker, and Other Related Sub-projects.
